Peaceful Bus Initiative

Peaceful Bus Activity, November 15th, 2017

Students on each bus made a paper "quilt" that represented their ideas about how to be kind on the busses. Students worked together to discuss how to contribute to a positive culture on the bus.

Mrs. Hall made a short video for us of her reading from The Kindness Quilt, by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace. The seventh and eighth grade students showed the video to groups of younger students on their laptops, and then worked with the younger students to create positive messages for the quilt.

The quilts are currently posted near the cafeteria. If you are in the building, stop by to see them!

Peaceful Bus Picnic, September 12th, 2017

We do at least three "Peaceful Bus" activities per year. The goal is to create a calm, orderly, positive, and enjoyable atmosphere on the busses. The bus drivers participate when possible, and each bus has a group of DCS staff assigned to work with it as well.

Today all students ate lunch with their bus groups outside on our playing fields, and then played some "get to know you" games. Mrs. Lizotte picked out a number of games that got everybody in each bus group interacting and having fun.

We are very fortunate to have older students who model the expected behaviors for younger students and help them get settled on the busses. The older students team up with the younger students at the Peaceful Bus activities to solve problems and play games.

Thank you to DCS math teacher Alex Briasco-Brin for the photography.
