Student

Services

Greetings from the Student Services Team at Old Orchard Beach High School. We are reaching out to begin to provide support and connection through this uncertain time.

The Student Services Team is available to talk with parents or students to check in, manage anxiety, identify additional mental health resources, or just to connect. Even though we can’t be physically together, we still care about each other and a phone call or email can help remind us that we are part of a caring community!

OOBHS Student Services Team is available from 8:30 a.m - 2:45 p.m. every weekday:

  • Beth Nason at enason@rsu23.org or 603.770.5539

  • Jackie Hayes at jhayes@rsu23.org or 207.808.9358

  • Cathy Reed at creed@rsu23.org or 207.303.8732

Take time to read carefully and follow all of the recommendations sent out in recent RSU23 emails from Superintendent John Suttie with updated information on school schedules, resources and best practices to keep healthy at this time. Keep watching for these emails to be informed.

Free lunch and breakfast pick-ups are available starting Wednesday 3/18. Reach out to Caroline Trinder at ctrinder@rsu23.org or one of us for more information.

Being home for an extended period of time may become a source of stress for both parents and students. There are many on-line resources to help with managing stress and anxiety. Here are 2 resources we thought could be helpful:

Managing Stress and Anxiety

Talking with Children about COVID-19

We also encourage you to stay informed and follow healthy behaviors and social distancing practices (guidelines can be found HERE). It is also important to take breaks from the news and find ways to unwind and think about other things. Connect with your friends and loved ones through face-time, texting, and other digital means.

Other Social Service Supports

  • For those families who access counseling and social work support from Sarah Kelsik, she plans to have her counseling sessions virtually and will continue to be in touch.

  • Our Day One counselor - Melissa LeBrun is available to connect with students or parents with any questions, concerns or needs for support regarding alcohol or drug use.

  • Community supports - for more serious emotional crises, please contact: Sweetser Crisis Hotline 1.888.568.1112 or dial 211 for Maine’s free hotline and access to a variety of resources for anywhere in the state of Maine.

*Both are available 24 hours a day to assist if a student or parent is in need of immediate help.

Most of all- Keep your sense of humor!!! We are all going through this together and for sure laughter is the best prevention of all!!
