The Bassoon is a double reed woodwind instrument. This means that the bassoonist blows air through a double reed, two pieces of wood that are tied together with string around a small metal tube, in order to make a sound. The bassoon is an amazing and unique instrument that holds a very special place in music. It is capable of sounding both soft and loud and can be very expressive. Fun Fact: Have you have ever seen or heard Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf? Prokofiev used the bassoon to represent the cranky grandfather character in his masterpiece.
