About Ms. Tiesi:
I teach Music 1 at Maggie Cordova Elementary. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education with certifications from the Gordon Institute for Music Learning in Elementary General Music as well as certifications in both the Kodály and Orff Pedagogies. I studied voice in college but I also play the clarinet, ukulele, and a little piano. Before becoming a music teacher, I earned a BA in Spanish and an MA in Latin American Studies. My husband and I have been married for 12 years and we have a daughter in 2nd grade. When I'm not teaching, you can find me hanging out with my family. I love arts and crafts, puzzles, reading, music (duh!), and learning new things. I strive to pass along that love of learning to all my students as we explore music together.
Music Learning Theory, or MLT, informs and guides my teaching practices. Based on the research of Edwin G. Gordon, MLT is a collection of ideas that explain how children learn music. There are several important aspects to Music Learning Theory. Click this link to my "For Learning Coaches" page to learn more about Audiation, MLT, and becoming a more musical human.
Below is a brief performance I gave with some other music teachers last summer. We put this together to demonstrate what students can do with sequential music learning. Enjoy!
