November First Wednesday "pay2Play"

On Wednesday November 7, 2018, Crossroads Learning Center held First Wednesday. First Wednesday is a day of games. Normally we go against homerooms. This month was a little different than our average First Wednesday at Crossroads: this time we had a more of free range day. We decided to make a donation for United Way but in a fun way. The donation was “Pay to Play” for First Wednesday. Pay to play is where you pay money to play or do an activity. We chose pay to play this month so that we could raise money for United Way. United Way is a nonprofit organization that helps people in our area. The way that this worked was that every student picked a place to be for the day, almost every room had a fee to get in. Some of the rooms included escape rooms, movie, chill, and video game rooms and the list goes on. Students were also allowed to go to the Rogers Activity Center (RAC) and on a walk to Downtown Rogers. For those that didn’t want to participate in the fundraiser they were allowed to go do makeup work or play board games for free. Although there was a small fee to pay to get into each room, it was worth the fee. Many spent most of the day at the RAC practicing basketball with the future teams that would be playing in the student-faculty basketball game. For the first half of the day, we went over defense and what type of defense we wanted to play in the game, and just finished up by scrimmaging against each other before going into lunch. After lunch we went back to the RAC and split into 3 teams of 5 so we could rotate in and out during the game. We scrimmaged against each other until we had to come back to Crossroads. Then we had chosen a room to go and play games and just chilled for the rest of the day until we had to go back to our 9th hour homerooms. It was a fun experience and I’d gladly do it again. Overall it was a great way to get some donations for United Way and have a fun day at school.

JAG Field trip to Tyson

The Tyson field trip was very effective and informative. We got a tour of the whole building and found out a lot about the history of Tyson and what it came from. We all got our own interviewer. It went pretty well. We had a lot of feedback on what we needed to work on or improve. The talked us through a presentation and gave examples of wrong and right things to do or ask or say in an interview. Overall we had a good time and learned a lot.
