Meet the teachers


Mr. Brabeck is currently the band director and orchestra director for the CAPA program at Auburn High School and one of the directors for the Rockford Marching Band. In addition to teaching Mr. Brabeck also serves as the RPS 205 Instrumental All City Music Festival Event Coordinator, and serves as a Curriculum Implementation Leader (CIL) for the district. 

Mr. Brabeck has also been an assistant tour manager for the Phantom Regiment Drum Corps, where he also was an active performance member of in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, he was on the brass and visual staff for the Racine Kilties Drum and Bugle Corps. 

Mr. Brabeck is a proud alumni of Illinois State University (ISU) and their Big Red Marching Machine. Mr. Brabeck lives in Marengo, IL with his finance Sarah. They enjoy CrossFit, ice hockey, and making TikTok videos with friends.


Matthew Eaton is currently in his 30th year of teaching instrumental music and in his 7th year as Associate Director of Bands at the Freeport School District #145 where is duties include conducting the 6th grade Beginning Band, High School Concert Band, and lessons for 5th Grade and Middle School band students. Prior to coming to Freeport, Mr. Eaton served as Director of Bands at the Chadwick/Milledgeville and the Meridian (Stillman Valley, IL) School Districts. In 2007 Mr. Eaton was awarded the Mr. Holland’s Foundation Outstanding Teacher Award for his development of the Band Program at the Meridian School District. He has performed with many Community Bands around Northern Illinois including the Sterling Municipal Symphony Band, Dixon Municipal Band, and the Rockford Wind Ensemble. Mr. Eaton is currently an active private percussion instructor, adjudicator, and performer around the area including teaching the Rockford Rhythm Drumline, and performing with the Strikers Drumline from Crystal Lake, Illinois. He resides in Oregon, Illinois with his lovely wife, Lisa, who is an Elementary Music Teacher in the Rockford School District #205. Mr. Eaton is an alumni member of the Phantom Regiment organization. He marched in the drumline for the 1984 Phantom Regiment Cadets and the 1985 Phantom Regiment. 


Ms. Funk is joining the teaching team at West Middle School teaching band and CAPA band.  She was one of the founding directors for the Rockford Competitive Marching Band.  Ms. Funk has been teaching music in RPS 205 for 12 years.  Ms. Funk worked at the Interlochen Center of the Arts for five years in various roles in the summer camp program.

She has been working with the RCMB since the beginning of the program in 2012.   Ms. Funk is involved in Main Street Players of Boone County directing their musicals, plays with Starlight Theater's Orchestra, playing piano at her church, among other musical hobbies.

Ms. Funk is a proud alumni of Illinois State University (ISU) and their Big Red Marching Machine.  Ms. Funk lives in Winnebago, IL with her 2 foster kids, and 2 dogs.  She enjoys bowling, cooking, sports, and reading.
