Lockdown Information

Latest Development

As you are aware, the government announced that public as well as private schools may not receive learners on the premises before the 26th of July due to the current spike in positive COVID cases.

Fortunately we are able to start the term on the 19th of July by implementing the online system that we refined during the previous lock downs in 2020 and 2021. Lessons will commence via Google Classroom on the 19th of July 2021 at 07:30, and will follow a regular school day's schedule, until our return to school on the 26th of July 2021. Teachers will post lessons as per the class schedule and be available online to assist learners where needed as well as give feedback on the work during the school day.

Learners will access the classrooms with their existing login details and new learners will receive their login details in the next few days.

Please check our website and your email inbox for updates.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

What to expect on your return to school on 26 July 2021

  • Before leaving home please make sure that the following is completed in pen:

    • Screening Questionnaire (needs to be done each morning)

    • Parent Covid-19 Declaration (needs to be handed in on the first day)

    • Learner Health Questionnaire (needs to be handed in on the first day)

  • Please ensure you have your child's mask in hand and the personal hand sanitiser is in the school bag

  • Upon arrival please put your masks on before exiting the car.

  • Join the queue by standing on designated red lines to ensure social distancing.

  • When it is your child's turn to go in, present the questionnaires and declaration to the Health and Safety Officer.

  • Your child will then

    • step into the foot bath with both feet to sanitise his/her shoes.

    • hold both hands out to receive hand sanitiser. Rub well into your hands top and bottom and between your fingers.

    • stand in front of the official to have his/her temperature measured. This is not painful at all and the instrument will not touch your skin.

    • make his/her way to the class where the teacher and friends are waiting. Do not stop on the way.

  • In class, the teacher will help the students follow the rules and answer any questions.

  • Unfortunately, the Departmental Regulations do not allow for parents to accompany learners on school grounds, but staff members will be on hand to assist students where needed.

Please ensure that your child has a well-fitted mask, as it is required to be worn at all times. All pathways and certain areas on the playground have been marked with social distancing lines and all students will be seated at a minimum of 1.5m from other students and teachers. Students will be constantly reminded to adhere to social distancing rules.

We are also implementing other measures to reduce the risk of transmission and keep our students and staff as safe as possible.A safe environment can be achieved through the elimination of infectious particles in the air and on surfaces by always adhering to the golden rules.

  1. Prevent direct contact with persons who are sick – encourage educators, learners and staff to stay at home when feeling sick;

  2. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) – use protective face masks at all times;

  3. Environmental cleaning and disinfection;

  4. Social distancing;

  5. Hand hygiene - wash hands frequently with soap and water;

  6. Use alcohol-based hand sanitiser regularly;

  7. Avoid touching your eyes, mouth, or nose;

  8. Limit airborne transmission - practice cough and sneeze etiquette;

General risk reduction measures:

  1. Every person (parent, teacher, learner or visitor) that enters or leaves the school must wash their hands or sanitise them at the entrance/gate utilising hand hygiene stations equipped with soap and water, or sanitise with the provided hand sanitiser.

  2. Pens and pencils may not be shared amongst learners or teachers.

  3. There should be no sharing of food or eating utensils. Please send your child with his/her own cutlery and crockery as well as a water bottle.

  4. Social distancing must be adhered to at all times.

  5. Classrooms are well ventilated.

  6. Classrooms are cleaned at least twice a day with disinfectant.

  7. Every person that enters the school will have their temperature checked using a digital thermometer.

    1. A reading of 38 degrees Celcius and above indicates a possible fever and will be referred for further investigation, as per the DBE Standard Operation Procedure for the Prevention, Containment and Management of COVID-19 in Schools and School Communities- hereafter referred to as the “SOPs”)

    2. Visitors and staff with a fever are not permitted on the school grounds.

    3. Learners with a temperature of more than 38 degrees will be kept separate from others and isolated to the designated isolation space, equipped with a mask, and parents/caregivers will be notified to collect the child for further examination by a health professional.

Screening of all persons entering the premises will be mandatory. As per government regulations, no parents and/or visitors are allowed on the premises without a set appointment, in order not to compromise the risk reduction measures. Each person's temperature will be taken and asked the following questions:

  1. Do you have a high temperature?

  2. Do you have a cough?

  3. Do you have a sore throat?

  4. Do you have difficulty breathing (shortness of breath)?

  5. Do you feel weak and tired today?

  6. Can you taste food and drinks normally?

  7. Can you smell normally?

If the measured temperature is 38 degrees Celsius or higher, or the answers to any of the above questions are answered 'yes', the person will be referred to have a medical examination done by a doctor. Please line up outside the gate behind the red lines for screening. I have attached a form to be completed by the parent/guardian of the student answering the screening questions. The temperature will be noted on the form and the child may then enter the grounds.

Each classroom and office will have access to the following:

  1. A handwashing station, handwashing soap (bar or liquid) or hand sanitizer with at least 60 % alcohol base.

  2. Frequent hand hygiene will be part of the routine of everyday life in a school or office. Every person that enters a classroom must wash their hands with soap and water or sanitise their hands, and again when leaving the classroom.

  3. A litter bin with a lid, lined with a bin liner in which all tissues, paper towels and possible contaminated waste must be discarded.

  4. Paper towels are provided to dry hands or wipe surfaces. Used paper towels must be discarded safely in the litter bin with a lid.

  5. Protective face masks (cloth masks) and/or visors must be worn at all times in classrooms.

Each toilet/bathroom will have the following:

  1. A handwashing station and handwashing soap close to the toilet for handwashing after using the toilet.

  2. Paper towels to dry hands. Used paper towels must be discarded safely in the litter bin with a lid. Do not use a common hand towel.

  3. A litter bin with a lid, lined with a bin liner in which all tissues, paper towels and possible contaminated waste must be discarded.

  4. Surfaces that are regularly touched, e.g. taps, doorknobs and toilet handles will be wiped down hourly with 20 ml bleach per litre water or disinfectant wipes.

  5. Daily cleaning of all surfaces at least twice a day with a disinfectant cleaner with a bleach mixture (250ml of bleach to 5 litres of water).
