114th RMB VLC National Sprint Regatta

Victoria Lake, Germiston

Welcome from our Chairman

After a rather long and at times frustrating hiatus it is with great pride that we welcome all competitors, coaches, supporters and officials to Victoria Lake Club for the running of the 114th RMB VLRC Sprints Regatta. At last a sense of normality seems possible and I sincerely hope that 2022 will bring a return to competitive events at all clubs.

This year Sprints promises once again to be the event that we have all come to know and love competing in. We look forward to hosting some of our national rowers who will be returning to compete at Sprints. There will be an opportunity to meet some of the national squad, although strict Covid protocols must please be adhered to.

With South Africa hosting the World Rowing Master’s Regatta in 2023, there will be a stand dedicated to WRMR 2023, there to provide you with any information you may need on the event as well as how to get back into rowing so that you can compete and experience a once in a lifetime event.

This year, as has become the trend, we have decided to go digital with all our communications. We will also be live streaming the event on YouTube. Please look out for the QR codes displayed around the regatta venue which will link you into the virtual regatta world where you will be able to get a schedule of events, view results as well as get the link to the live stream. We hope that you enjoy the new format.

These events take a massive amount of organisation and financial commitment and we are once again grateful to RMB our headline sponsor of the regatta. Without their support, not only of our regatta but for rowing in general, much of what we experience as a rowing community would not be possible.

To the VLC regatta organising committee and to all those who assist with the preparation or who simply volunteer to assist on the day – none of what we do would be possible without your invaluable contribution. My grateful thanks goes out to each of you.

And to you our competitors and supporters, for whom we take great pleasure in putting on this event – we wish you a weekend of great racing and competitive fun. Welcome back to competitive rowing and may your experience at Sprints spur you on to achieve even greater things through 2022.
