Sommer Elementary P.E.

Announcements

3rd-5th Graders will be participating in Skating 101, some frequently asked questions are:

  • Can I bring my own skates and pads? No, the company is providing them for us ensuring safety.
  • Can I bring my own helmet? Yes! If you do not, you need to bring a hat of some kind so you do not have to wear a shower cap.
  • Can I skate and bring my permission slip later? No, we must have the permission before you can skate.

P.E. Expectations

Students are expected to come to PE dressed for exercise! This includes wearing closed-toe tennis shoes to P.E. Students who wear boots, sandals, flip-flops or any shoe with a heal, will be asked to sit out during certain activities for their safety. Please check with your student's teacher regarding which days they will have PE class.

If your student must sit out during PE class for a health/injury related reason, please send a doctor's note with your student or contact one of the coaches as soon as possible.

Running Club

Will begin in the Monday, 8/27. If you are new to Sommer, running club is held in the morning before school. It allows all students to come out (on their grade level days) to walk/run the track with their friends and get their mind and body ready for a day of learning.

Students may come out starting at 7:10 am, or as soon as they arrive. PE teachers will dismiss students back to class by 7:30 am.

    • 1st, 2nd grade - Monday/Wednesday AM
    • 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade - Tuesday/Thursday AM

Please make sure that students have proper clothing and shoes to participate in running club. Once they come out, they will not be able to go back inside until run club has ended.

Parents: You're welcome to join your student and/or help the PE teachers monitor students during this time. Meet us out at the track!

Please sign up our Run Club Remind Notifications. It will alert you via text if running club is going to be cancelled.

Safety Patrol

Calling all 5th grade students! We are in need of responsible 5th graders to join our Safety Patrol team. We have morning and afternoon shifts available. These students will be responsible for opening/closing car doors, helping the little ones out of the car, and making sure they make it to their classroom safely in the morning. Afternoon helpers will be responsible for taking down the flags and assist with putting away recess equipment. They will be done no later than 3:10 pm. If you are interested, please see any of the PE for an application.

Our first group will start on the second week of school!
