I am so excited to be starting the new school year at Caraway with your student! I cannot wait to see all the things we can accomplish together. This is my sixth year at Caraway and I’d like to share a few things about myself. I was born in Austin, and grew up in the Round Rock ISD school system. I loved growing up in such an amazing city, and am thrilled to be continuing my career here as well! I graduated from Concordia University Austin in 2013 with a degree in Special Education. Right after graduating, I started at Callison Elementary as an Assistant in RTI.
I have always loved working with kids. It started 10 years ago while I was a camp counselor at a water skiing camp. I got to teach kids team building skills, wakeboarding, water skiing, archery, sailing, and canoeing. Seeing the kids master a skill they had been working on for a long time was the best part of the summer. I loved knowing that I was able to help them achieve something they never thought was possible. I grew up struggling in schools and slipping through the cracks. After that summer at camp, I started spending time in a classroom and I devoted myself to helping those kids that just need that little bit of extra help to succeed. I still live to see those “lightbulb” moments from my kids. I am also a big kid myself, and I love to be able to be able to get down on their level and tailor their learning to the things they love.
When I am not at school, I try to play soccer as much as I can. I grew up an athlete, and I’m not quite ready to let go of the sport just yet; even if my body disagrees with me! I also have two dogs, Callie, who is ten years old, and Cooper, who is 2 years old. He’s a handful! I love being outside and being active!
