Reminders for the week and the month: . 

• Field Day Volunteers Needed: Field Day is tomorrow, Monday May, 22nd and we always need volunteers to help make it extra special and pull it all off.  The event will be open to students and volunteers only, so if you would like to come to Field Day, volunteer here on this sign up sheet. If you have any questions, email- kiafaulkenberry@gmail.com 

The cafeteria manager would like to have a count of how many students will be ordering lunch on field day. If you could please fill in this form with your student's name and an x in the correct column even if they are packing lunch.

• End of the Year Party:  We will be having our end of the year celebration on Wednesday, May 24th from 11:00-12:15. Parents are cordially invited to join us for some fun! You can use this  link (LME K-4th End of Year Party 2022-23 Raptor Sign Up) to have a pre-printed visitor badge ready for you in the office so you don't have to wait in line on the day. 

• Chromebooks:  I am planning on having parents take their student's Chromebook and charger home at the end of our end of the year party. Please let me know if your child will be missing the last day(s) of school due to a trip, so that I can send their things home prior to their last day. 

• Author's Tea:  Thank you so much to everyone who came! I hope you enjoyed it. It made my teacher heart so happy to see the kids so excited to share their work. Many of you have requested the link to the picture slide show. I will be sending that out this week along with the ideas for summer writing activities. 

• Playdates:  If you are interested in setting up a playdate with other students from our class use this link. 

• LME Yearbooks: A limited number of yearbooks are still available for PTA members to purchase for $35 through Tuesday, May 23rd, or until they sell out at lmepta.org! If you have any questions, please contact Dina Mavridis at dnmavridis@gmail.com.  

• Library: We don't have anymore library classes this year. Please make sure all books are returned as soon as possible. 

• Dance Camp: The Westwood Sundancers will be hosting a Summer Dance Camp on July 31st - August 2nd for incoming K-9th graders. There is a half day and full day option. • Movie Day: On the last day of school, we will be watching Monsters Inc. and/or Lilo and Stitch to celebrate our monstrously good year in first grade. The movies are rated PG. If you would like your child to opt out of participating, please let me know via email. 

• Order your school supplies for the next 2023-2024 school year, now!  It doesn't get any easier than pre-ordering them TODAY, and then they will be delivered straight to your child's classroom in August before school starts!!

2. Select the appropriate grade pack. Be sure to choose next year’s grade level. 

3. Pay with a debit or credit card. You will receive an email confirmation once you purchase your child’s kit. 

4. Order dates: Now – July 11th 

5. Every kit includes all the exact teacher requested supplies, viewable online. 

6. Your child’s kit will be delivered directly to Laurel Mountain Elementary in August!

• Summer Gardening: You are invited to tend to our gardens over the summer

• Community Play Day: July 26th 8am-12 The Preserve will be OPEN

• Mystery Reader: Thank you to everyone who has been a reader this year! The kids truly loved trying to figure out who it was going to be and they enjoyed hearing some of your favorite stories from home.  On Fridays from 1:00-1:30, we are hoping to have a mystery reader. If you would like to come in and read a story (or a few stories) to the class, please sign up here. Please type in your name and your child's name. You are welcome to bring your own book(s) or read some from the classroom. If you are working at that time, but would like to participate, you can always email me a video of yourself reading instead. 

Curriculum: 

Science/Social Studies: Finish forms of energy-sound/light/heat

Math: review games/songs/activities for all concepts taught

Writing: Research and inquiry project, end of the year memory books

Phonics - review spelling patterns, review sight words/heart words, rhyming, segmentation, onset and rime, beginning/ending sounds, phoneme manipulation

SEL (Social Emotional Lessons): Feelings about the end of the year and moving on to a new grade. 

Reading: End of the year books

Reminders for the year:

1.  Please send a snack and water bottle with your child to school everyday.

2.  If your child has a change in dismissal, please let me know in an email at least one day before hand. If there is a change for the current day of school, please call the office and they will alert me. (office 464-4630).

3.  Please use the online form if a student is going to be absent for the day. 

4. Monday Folders: Folders will go home every Monday and should be cleaned out and returned on Tuesday. 

5. Resources Tab: There are some great resources on our class website. This is a fun chance for you and your little one to connect with one another about what they've been learning in school and it's a great way to review concepts and content. 

6. Calendar Tab: Important dates are listed under the calendar tab on our website. Please check this tab weekly as it will be updated with new information.
