ABOUT COACH FANARA:

I will be starting my 4th year at McNeil as a teacher and the Defensive Coordinator for the  Football program.  I also will be coaching Wrestling this year again for the 2nd year.  Before joining McNeil in April 2020, I coached Defensive Line & Linebackers at Vandegrift High School. 2021 begins my 34th year coaching, with head coaching stints in Missouri and Texas. Prior to moving to Austin I coached in Brownwood, TX where I spent 12 years in a variety of coaching roles including assistant positions at Early High School, Southeastern Oklahoma State University and Brownwood High School. I originally came to Texas in 2005 as the defensive coordinator at Howard Payne University and later served as the head coach from 2008-2011.Prior to living in Brownwood, I spent the 2004 season as the head coach at 6A Oakville High School in St. Louis, Missouri.  I have been a head high school coach for seven years with stops at Ruskin, Warrensburg and DeSoto High Schools in Missouri. I have also coached 13 years at the collegiate level with Mid-America Nazarene, Olivet Nazarene, Southwest Baptist, Southeastern Oklahoma and The United States Military Academy Prep School.  I served as the recruiting coordinator at two schools and have also held both offensive and defensive coordinator titles.

I earned my degree at Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, Missouri in 1988 and played for two seasons before beginning my coaching career as a student assistant.  I hold a Masters degree from Mid America Nazarene University.  I have been married to my wife Lesley for 28 years and have three children, Jordan-32, Lauren-26, and Grant-23.  My wife and I enjoy eating out and listening to Live Music as well as spending time with granddaughter Emma and grandson Hudson.
