The mission of the library program at Forest North Elementary is to build a legacy of learners, continually increase reading culture, and make positive change in our community every day.
The Forest North Elementary Library operates on a flexible schedule with an open access policy. Students may come to the library at any time to check out a book, research information, or read independently. Teachers work collaboratively with the librarian to schedule lessons based on Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Students use research models for information seeking strategies.
All books have a two-week checkout time. PreKindergarten and Kindergarten students may check out one book at a time and are encouraged to bring their book home to read. Students in 1st and 2nd grades may check out up to two books at a time. Students in 3rd through 5th grades may check out up to three books at a time.
Accidents happen! If a book accidentally becomes damaged, we ask that the student report the damage so we might try to repair the book. If a book page accidentally rips, please do not attempt to repair the book at home. We use special book tapes and glue, which resist heat and won’t discolor, and are better for the life of the book.
If a book becomes damaged beyond use or lost, we ask that the student pays the cost to replace the book so we can purchase that book again for our collection. We can take cash (exact change), check, or online payment.
NOTE: Please do not purchase a copy of the book on your own. We will go through proper library vendors in order to acquire the highest quality library-bound copy as a replacement.
