Library Leaders are 2nd-5th grade students who keep our library running smoothly. They attend training sessions periodically during lunch. They turn in their class’ books, work at the checkout desk during their class’ checkout time, or volunteer before school to locate books for other students.
Library Leaders are assigned to a team. The teams are Circulation Managers, Customer Service, Wake Up & Read, Book Buying, Catalog Specialist & Merchandisers.
Circulation Managers gather their class’ books and bring them to the library before their class checkout time.
The Customer Service Team checks books out for students with our online software, using great customer service skills, during class checkout time.
The Wake Up & Read Team works before school (7:20-7:35) to help students search the catalog, put books on hold, find books on the shelf, and use great customer service and technology skills.
The Book Buying Team are the ultimate library advocates - they select, purchase and process new library books for our school.
Catalog Specialists are experienced Library Leaders who are great at helping students search the catalog, find books on the shelf, and place holds on the computers.
Merchandisers design and implement library displays in the library. They choose books to spotlight in various display spots around the library, can create art or bring props to highlight them behind the circulation desk, and can help set up for the Book Fair.
We train on the job and do not require out of class time. Library Leaders earn points depending on how often and how well they do their job. Library Leaders have monthly prize silent auctions, and will be invited a few days in advance. Points not spent on prizes will roll over month to month and only expire at the end of the school year. Students will be invited to come to the library to bid on silent auction items after they finish lunch in the cafeteria.
