PATH TO SUCCESS IN DANCE CLASS

Dress Out and Stay Safe

  • Dancers will not have a locker but instead will bring their clothes to class every day like a textbook.

  • It is expected that dancers change out for class every day unless otherwise communicated so that they may participate fully.

  • Dancers will need to wear specific dance clothes for class every day so they are able to move freely and safely.

  • Dancers are not allowed to chew gum in class.

  • Dancers must remove any large and/or dangling jewelry.

    • Please note that Cedar Valley Middle School and/or Round Rock ISD will not be liable for things that are lost or stolen. Please take care of your dancewear and other personal items. Also make sure you label all dancewear with name or initials in permanent marker.

Work Hard

  • Always try to do everything that is asked of you...no matter how difficult or strange something may seem.

  • Use class time wisely by coming to class knowing the material that has already been taught.

  • Ask for help when you need it.

Be Respectful

  • As a member of the Cedar Valley Dance Class, the student is expected to realize his/her responsibility to the group and engage in self-discipline and is accountable for their behavior. These high standards of behavior should be demonstrated in the classroom, at rehearsals, performances, activities, etc.

  • Be respectful to your teacher as well as each other by not disrupting instruction.

  • Be supportive and pay attention when others are dancing and be kind to each other when mistakes are made – the next time it might be you!

    • Please note that a student choosing to be uncooperative, disrespectful, and/or disruptive will face the following consequences: student/teacher conference, parental contact, probation of participation in dance activities, and/or office referral.

Learn

  • Keep an open mind at all times.

  • Don't ever be afraid to think outside the box.

  • Learn as much as you can about yourself, each other, dance history, music history, dance vocabulary, various styles of dance as well as dance technique.

PERFORMANCE POLICY

Cedar Valley Fine Arts Policy for Required Rehearsals and Performances

The Round Rock School Board has determined that Band/Choir/Dance/Orchestra/Musical Theatre/Theatre are Performing Arts and that performances are an extension of the classroom. These after school rehearsals and performances are part of the course curriculum and are graded events. In the event of a conflict, parent/guardians should notify Ms. Popov by email or phone as soon as possible.

All students who miss required after school rehearsals or performances will be required to complete a make-up assignment in order to earn partial credit for the missed rehearsal or performance. In the event that a student misses both a mandatory rehearsal and performance, make-up assignments will be handled on a case by case basis.

With minimum of 6 weeks advanced notice in writing from parent prior to a rehearsal or performance:

Student will receive an alternate assignment for maximum of 90 points and have 5 school days to complete the assignment once received. If it is not turned in by that time then grade remains a zero.

With less than 6 weeks advanced notice in writing from parent prior to a rehearsal or performance:

Student will receive an alternate assignment for maximum of 70 points and have 5 school days to complete the assignment once received. If it is not turned in by that time then grade remains a zero.
