"We are not makers of history. We are made by history" -MLK
This quote embodies the ideas of my class room. We have so much to learn from the past and the stories of others. It is my goal as an educator to help my students explore the past, to help them form opinions to make them educated citizens who can change their lives, communities and maybe even the world.
I'm Coach Calvert and I'm really excited to experience US History with you this year. I teach US History at McNeil as well as coach the girls cross country team and assist with girls soccer.
I am a huge history nerd. My dad was in the US Navy for most of my life and was a history major. I was born in Washington DC and was privileged to have access to some incredible resources to fuel my curiosity. I graduated from the University of Oklahoma (Boomer!) with two degrees, one in Secondary Social Studies Education and the second in Art History. I also had a minor in Native Studies.
While I love history it isn't my only passion. Nothing makes my day like a great run, its my goal to run a half marathon in every city I live in. I also love cooking, reading and being outdoors. I also am a huge fan of learning, you can always catch me researching something or trying to teach myself a new skill.

I have a remind account set up for announcements or additional resources. Please find your class code and text it to @81010 to sign up.
I use Remind and my e-mail to communicate with students. Your student is in 11th grade, so I would rather them speak to me about missing work, tutorials, grade help etc. However, if you would like to sign up for your student's class remind account you are more than welcome. You are also welcome to e-mail me at anytime.
