Ryan Arnold Automotive Department
I am excited to be the new CTE Automotive Technology teacher and joining the McNeil High School family in the 2018-2019 school year. I look forward to developing the Auto Tech program into a place where students can do anything from learn a little about their cars to being prepared to work towards a career in the Automotive field.
Previous to joining the McNeil family, I taught Automotive Technology and Motorcycle/Small Engine Repair at Austin Community College for 8 years. During that time, I also served as the Race Director for a specialized Texas based land speed racing group. Before that, I myself worked as a foreman and an auto tech in dealerships and independent repair shops. This back ground provides me with first hand knowledge of what is expected and required to further their education and prepare them for the automotive field.
I grew up on a small farm in Illinois where I first learned to love working on equipment. My grandfather taught me how to fix our farm equipment, cars, and how to do our own maintenance. I didn't realize until many years later that being able to fix things was not a trait many of my other friends had, and I am extremely grateful that my grandfather taught me so many of these skills.
I am a proud US ARMY veteran, and during my service I spent a year stationed in Korea thirteen miles south of the DMZ. After the military, I was able to utilize my GI benefits and attend college at John A Logan and Southern Illinois University. I have a degree in Accounting from John A Logan, but quickly realized that what really made me happy was working with my hands. After moving to Texas with my wife, I decided to attend Austin Community College to learn Automotive skills. I received a degree in Automotive Technology from ACC with additional certificates in motorcycle repair and small engine repair.
I am excited to provide a space for my students to learn, thrive, and develop into car literate adults.
I am happy to assist my students with their efforts to succeed. I can be found for tutorial time from 8:30am-9:00am Monday-Friday.
