What to do if Your Child is Symptomatic


Travel out of CA requires Modified Quarantine for unvaccinated students whereas travel out of the US requires full quarantine and testing

When to stay home:

  1. Child has cold or COVID symptoms or temperature over 100F (fever considered 100.4F or 38C) (Symptoms: congestion/runny nose, sore throat, cough, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, fever >100.4F, chills, body ache, loss of taste or smell)

  2. A family member in household has a fever or onset of COVID-19 symptoms

  3. Child or family COVID exposure in the last 14days.

  • Ex: individual has been in close contact with a positive or presumed case of COVID-19 for 15+ minutes and within 6 feet, with or without a face covering for or more for 15minutes.

  • Fever or chills

  • Muscle or body aches
  • Headache

  • New loss of taste or smell

If symptoms occur at school:

  • Parent/ guardian/ emergency contact will be called and the child should be picked up ASAP, no longer than 30minute wait.

  • Please inform Nurse Parker if you would like her to conduct a rapid antigen test on your symptomatic child (CA/Marin County Pilot Program)

  • Guardian will contact the healthcare provider for direction.

  • The child will be tested and PCR or Antigen test results (- or +) will be submitted to Nurse Parker.

  • The school will contact Marin County Public health to assist in tracking

  2. COVID-19 testing/ 10-14 day quarantine since the onset of symptoms. *MPH is only accepting PCR and Antigen testing for readmission.

  3. Quarantine/ Isolation procedures

    • symptomatic

    • At home/community exposure unvaccinated

    • School exposure unvaccinated

    • Travel

Symptomatic

If a student/staff has any symptoms of

  1. Student/ staff needs to stay home

  2. Return to school with either:

  • Doctors note with an alternative diagnosis

OR

  • COVID-19 test results

  • After symptoms have resolved for > 24 hours w/o medication on board.

*MPH is only accepting PCR, and antigen testing for readmission.

Home/Community Contact

If a household member has any symptoms, unvaccinated individuals must stay home. Fully vaccinated asymptomatic students can attend school.

How to test out of Quarantine With negative test results 5-7 days after classroom exposure and no symptoms a contact may return on day 8 but must continue to monitor for symptoms. (Only PCR tests accepted)

Contact/exposure: (15+ minutes within 6ft within 24hours, with or without a mask, or lives in the same household with a COVID+ person)

Unvaccinated students = Modified Quarantine
