Welcome to Printmaking!
This course allows you the opportunity to discover the endless possibilities that this medium can offer. We will cover a wide range of printmaking techniques throughout the year, in a non-toxic environment and using water based inks.
This hands-on course will cover the finer techniques of printmaking, demonstrating good ink applications, colour roll up techniques and chine colle throughout each print process.
Relief surfaces and monotype printing will be explored, utilising cut stencils and experimenting with roll-up techniques. Woodcut will be utilised, drawing on the skills built in both Year 11 Visual Art and Year 12 Printmaking and Drawing. Using a variety of tools and through multi-block printing, both linear and tonal concerns are encouraged to develop.
There will be a strong focus on professional practice in term four covering the print edition, continuing to create bodies of prints combining a variety of print processes together. This will be an opportunity to refine individual conceptual concerns, working towards a resolution.
Demonstrations will be delivered at each stage, supported by written documentation and open discussions. By the end of the year, students will hold a cohesive body of work showing a good development of ideas and have a good understanding of basic printmaking techniques.
