Mrs. Latchic's FCS Webpage

Welcome to Mrs. Latchic's FCS webpage!

Family & Consumer Sciences, formerly called Home Economics is the study of everything that affects that home and the heart. It is my honor to teach Meadowbrook High school students the skills necessary for a successful future. My courses offer a real world application to the home, jobs, and the relationships that are necessary to thrive.

At MHS, every 9th grader is required to take the Transitions and Careers class, where they learn how to transition from childhood into adulthood and gain skills in healthy relationships, skills needed to get and KEEP a job, and much more. The rest of my courses are electives students can take any time in their 10th through 12th grades. CULINARY FUNDAMENTALS prepares students for success in the kitchen where they get to make and eat food here at school! Enough said! GLOBAL FOODS is also a cooking class where students explore cultures and cuisines. CHILD DEVELOPMENT is my only year long elective, and students learn everything about parenting, life skills, pregnancy, labor and delivery, development and care of infants through pre-school age children, with an emphasis on potential child and family related careers. There is some cooking in the CHILD DEVELOPMENT class, as well.

Direction and Motion Graphics: Brian Y. Marsh ( http://www.substance.agency ) Written and Narrated by: Kevin Fleming ( http://www.teloses.com ) Citrus College supported the production of “Success in the New Economy” to help a broader audience begin to understand preparation today for tomorrow’s labor market realities. The end result is a compelling case for students to explore career choices early, make informed decisions when declaring their college education goal, and to consider technical skill acquisition, real-world application and academics (career technical programs) in tandem with a classic education. This balanced approach to life and learning results in a well-educated and employed workforce. Leveraging his expertise in higher education and Career & Technical Education, Kevin Fleming adapted conference presentations and research to create this data-driven explanation. And award winning film creator and producer Brian Y. Marsh brought the data to life through animation. The complete transcription of the video with data references is available here: citruscollege.edu/academics/cte/Pages/default.aspx
