Timing values

If using manual timing then the only option available is to Set start time and it's only purpose is to be used on the Status page to show people how long the race has been progressing.

But for chip timing it is important to specify the exact time that the race started, since the values created by the ID Chronos timing system give the chip detections as time of day.

  • Import start time Browse to the directory containing the files created by the ID Chronos box. Select any file, if more than one. If there is only one entry in the file that is close to the scheduled start time then this will be chosen automatically, but if there are several entries that could correspond to the start time then you are presented with a list to select the correct one.

The values that are offered as potential race start times are:

      • Times when the RF On button is activated. This is the usal method of recording the start time and someone has to be delegated to press it at the same time as the race starts.

      • If mats have been used at the start of the race then the time recorded by the first runner across the line. This is liely to be the best definition of the race start time.

  • Set start time If there is no appropriate value to be selected, for example if the box was not switched on at the time that the race started, then this enables you to set it manually. Under these circumstances it is important that the laptop running RacePartner has been time synchronised with the ID Chronos box.

  • Import start finished time For races using mats at the start and the finish then the system needs to know when the last runner crossed the start line. This is in order to be able to distinguish this from the finishing time of the winner. This can be achieved by turning RF Off and then RF On after the last runner has crossed the start line. This value does not have to be accurate.

  • Set start finished time This is another way of defining when the last runner crossed the start line. As it does not need to be accurate then making a note on a stop watch and then setting an appropriate time will suffice.

  • Help It might

If using manual timing but with computer assistance, such as Race Timer, then the times can be Imported as soon as one or more runners have finished. For chip timing then further Import if times is not necessary. It is then possible to select the Status Page and this can then be displayed on a TV or projected, for all to see.

If using manual timing without computer assistance that provides both bib numbers and race times, then these must be entered directly.
