Forenames and Clubnames Lists
What's the forenames list for?
You have the choice of maintaining a list of known forenames, and crucially the gender that one normally associates with the name. If used then during checking of the race entrants it enables RacePartner to check that the runner's forename(s) matches the given gender. If not then you are given the choice to confirm that the given name is correct, or correct it if an error has been made. This means that forenames that have been slightly misspelt are flagged up, as well as those cases (and it does happen) when someone enters on-line and ticks the wrong box!
If the system has been established for some while then there will probably be a list of forenames already loaded. Either way the options are:-
Import Select this and you are presented with a conventional windows form to enable you to select the file that you wish to import. Talk to the system administrator if you don't know where your forenames list is stored. If you select a file that does conform to the required format then the request will not succeed.
Check Allows you to check the list. Rarely used.
Save Only available if changes have been made. In that case it will be highlighted to remind you that it needs to be saved. Selecting this will overwrite the existing file. This is as per normal windows convention. Changes occur during checking of the entrasnts when you confirm that a name that is not recognised is valid.
Save As Similar to Save but you are given the choice as to the name of the file to be used.
Ignore This button toggles between Ignore and Use. If you select it when it says Ignore then the list is ignored, i.e. no checking will be performed when you check the entrants. Use switches checking back on again. It is recommended that you do not deselect this option.
What's the clubnames list for?
As with the forenames list, above, you have the choice of maintaining a list of known running club names. In addition to maintaining a list of club names it also keeps a list of well used alternative spellings of short forms. For example one runner might enter Chepstow Harriers and another just Chepstow. The system will recognise these as being the same. This is again used during checking of the entrants. It is particularly important in races where team prizes are available, as otherwise much confusion could ensue.
The options are the same as for Forenames List.
