Veterans Day
Thursday, November 9, 2023
This Advisory is extended and will use an alternate schedule. Those who have seniors with late arrival should let students know to arrive earlier.
BEFORE THURSDAY:
Please talk to your homeroom in advance about expectations for their time with Veterans. You may wish to discuss what is and is not appropriate to ask, proper behavior, etc.
GENERAL INFO:
A list of the veterans and where they will be speaking can be found below.
This Advisory will run for about an hour, please see the revised schedule below.
Please note that last minute changes may occur in the event a veteran is unable to come. We ask for your flexibility.
At our next Advisory, students will write thank you letters to the vets.
Grades 11 & 12
Send one student to the Multipurpose room to get your assigned veteran and escort back to homeroom.
Each vet plans their presentation differently, so you may want to have students come up with questions in advance in case there is a lull.
With a few minutes left in homeroom, please have a student escort the veteran back to the multipurpose room for a group photo.
Grade 10
Escort your homeroom to the GYM - please have them leave all belongings, including cell phones, in homeroom.
Direct students to sit in the first set of bleachers near the door.
Students will hear from a veteran, along with a representative from an organization that has service dogs who work with vets. Amber, a labrador retriever, will accompany them.
Students will likely have time to ask any questions they may have.
Students will return to their homerooms toward the end of the Advisory period.
Grade 9
Escort your homeroom to the AUDITORIUM - please have them leave all belongings, including cell phones, in homeroom.
Direct students to sit in the front of the auditorium.
A vet will share his experiences, but there should be time for questions, so students can plan for that opportunity.
Students will return to their homerooms toward the end of the Advisory period.
