ROCKLAND- WRPS is a great way to get involved with the school and to have fun doing a show and being with people.
Senior Tony Ciano who has his own show called the "Sunrise Shuffle" said, “Students should just take the risk and do it because it is a lot of fun.”
WRPS is full of students and staff who help with sports games, radio, shows, and more behind-the-scenes work.
WRPS helps with talking in public and different points of view for your show and real life.
Junior Rocco Correia, who has a show called "Rocco's Rewind" with WRPS said, “I have learned how to be a very good salesman in a sense but also put over other people and promote stuff and a good way of talking.”
There are many benefits of doing WRPS like being involved with the community and meeting new people.
Ciano said, “My love for journalism and the fact I wanted to go into the journalism field in the future made me want to get involved early and see how it works.”
In WRPS you can have your own show or you could have a co-host as a partner and talk about anything.
Ciano said, “My favorite memory and experience every day is getting to wake up and get to talk about current events and play awesome music with my friend and co-host Alice De Andrade . It's a lot of fun.”
The way Correia got involved in WRPS is his passion and how he wanted to join a show and talk about everything.
Correia said, “During freshman orientation or 8th grade walk-through, [Mr. Chris Burneika] was in the studio. ‘Hey if anyone wants a radio show come by’ and also my 5th grade teacher Ms. Patricia Fallon, a science teacher, said ‘you should do WRPS when you get to high school’ so I will attribute that to her.”
WRPS helps set up a future and college by helping decide a major like broadcast journalism that Ciano is doing.
Ciano said, “When I graduate I am going to go to college for broadcast journalism with the hope to be in a news station one day but I also love the radio and I would love to do a radio show in college.”
Doing WRPS brings cool opportunities like seeing your favorite band/artist backstage and getting to see their show.
Correia got a great opportunity to meet his favorite band Dogmatics, a band located in Boston, at one of their concerts.
WRPS is helping Correia make decisions for after high school, like choosing what he wants to do in college or a job in the future.
The radio station is operational 24 hours a day, but the shows only happen some days of the week not every day like the radio station.
Ms. Lisa Breeden who is director of online media and radio operations said, "We broadcast 24/7 so we are on the air all the time. Most of the student shows are after school 3-4 or 3-5 pm. We are open to people coming and doing a show where we are live all of the time.”
Ciano said, “If you are interested in the industry, just take the chance and use the materials that are given in the station and you will never regret it.”
