ROCKLAND- Students from Rockland High School are going to play Unified Kickball on Monday, May 8 at Spring Street Field from 3:30 to 5:00 pm.
Athletic Director Mr. Dan Kimball, the organizer of Unified Kickball, said there will be four to six students from the Pathways class participating, along with students from all grades, consisting mostly of upperclassmen.
“The general rules will be applied for games, but they are mostly for kids to get involved and have fun,” Mr. Kimball said.
He says the objective is to be inclusive and to show that all students can play the sport regardless of athletic limitations.
“Unified Kickball will have a positive impact and involving kids is the best thing for high school athletics,” Mr. Kimball said.
Emma Cameron, a Bulldog Buddy and senior at RHS, said she has always found ways to get involved with the Pathways students, and said while she helps them grow they also help her grow.
Cameron said anyone interested in joining the kickball team can, and that students and families can come to enjoy the game and cheer players on.
“Rockland will be playing against three different Unified teams: Hanover, Abington, and East Bridgewater,” Cameron said.
Ms. Joanne White, the Pathways teacher, said players practice the game in their gym class and the student athletic mentors are with them if they need any help.
Faith Henry is a Pathways student planning to play in the game. This will be her first time playing in the Unified Kickball game but she played Unified Basketball in February with the Bulldogs against Hanover High School.
She says she is excited about having people cheer her on at the kickball game. Everyone can come with their families to enjoy the game with them.
Anyone interested in getting involved as a player or spectator should speak with Mr. Kimball.
