ROCKLAND- During the school year at Rockland High, all students have a lot on their plates.
During sports seasons, most student-athletes don’t seem to have much time for schoolwork.
Managing school and sports can prove to be very challenging, but there are ways to handle it.
Sports right after school can be very time-consuming since they can have unpredictable ending times.
Rockland High School freshman volleyball player Angela Langone explained that she has been playing volleyball for around twelve hours a week.
Rockland High School Track Captain, senior Taryn Lilja said, “[I have track for] an hour and a half at least every day.”
When spending at least seven and a half hours to twelve hours a week on after-school activities, minimal time is left over for homework.
Balancing school and sports is proven to be tough for many students.
“[Balancing school and sports is] hard. You kind of get used to it, though. I feel like Google Classroom helps a lot, and I use the reminder app on my phone," Lilja said.
Langone shared, “When I'm overwhelmed, I do what makes me happy or I spread out everything so I’m less overwhelmed.”
Lilja also shared that if she were given the opportunity, she would not change her schedule. She said this because she feels that she has learned a lot from track.
On the other hand, Langone shared that if given the chance, she would change her schedule since she feels that she has a lot of work and is staying up too late trying to get everything done.
Lilja said that when she gets home from track, she does her best to finish all her homework. She also does her school work on the weekends when she is not working, so she is not stressed out about it. Lila also shared that when she knows that she has a busy day coming up, she does her work beforehand.
Langone said that when she comes home from volleyball practice, she waits around an hour to chill out after practice, and then does her homework.
Even though balancing school and sports can be very stressful and challenging, Lilja and Langone proved that it is possible to get everything done.
