ROCKLAND- Every year, the students of Rockland vote for a Mr. and Mrs. Claus for the holiday season. This year, the winners are business teacher Mr. Jared Lordi and history teacher Mrs. Kara Frazer.
Choosing an honorary Mr. and Mrs. Claus is a tradition at Rockland High during the holiday season. Students voted for a staff member they think best embody the holiday spirit.
The voting process for choosing the yearly Mr. and Mrs. Claus happens based on students' votes during their English class period.
Senior Mariah Almeida voted for Mr. Lordi, and said, “I thought he was really funny.”
Freshman Bianca Carvalho also voted for Mr. Lordi.
“Well I think he’s a very good teacher, and teaches well. He’s funny and outgoing and I’m sure everyone likes him. I knew he’d be the perfect match for Santa this year because of his goofiness," she said.
Here are Mr. and Mrs. Claus’s answers to some holiday questions:
1. What is your favorite holiday food?
Lordi- There’s something about hot cocoa in the wintertime, it's magical.
Frazer- I do brunch on Christmas Eve and I love Willow Tree donuts.
2. Real or fake trees?
Lordi- we do a real tree every year, it's one of my favorite traditions.
Frazer- Fake tree, we got hardwood floors when I was a kid so I’ve never had a real one since then.
3. What would you wish for today?
Lordi- Today? World peace.
Frazer- Usually, I have a crazy list of what I want, but this year I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted, so I'm going to say Platform Ugg boots.
4. Do you put a star or angel on your tree?
Lordi- Growing up I had an angel, now I have a star.
Frazer- My tree in my apartment has a little star but my family tree at my parents’ house has a big red bow that drapes down.
5. What is the meaning of Christmas to you?
Lordi - Spending time with family and friends,taking a much needed break from school.
Frazer- When i get a perfect gift for someone to make them feel very special.
6. Why do you think you won?
Lordi- I think that this was a pity vote. Mr. Grimmett is the real Santa, but I’m happy to fill his Santa shoes.
Frazer- [We’re] very spirited and have the most school spirit
7. What does your family do during holiday break?
Frazer- My family has a tradition of going to see a movie every Christmas night. This year my brother wants to go see a Christmas action movie.
Lordi- My family gets together on Christmas Eve and we also have a cookie decorating contest and post it on Facebook to see who wins.
8. What was your biggest wish from Santa when you were little?
Frazer- An American Girl Doll. I of course had Samantha because I was a brunette growing up and couldn’t have Kit because she was blonde.
9. What’s your favorite gift you have received?
Lordi- My favorite gift so far was an Xbox, I couldn’t stop playing with after.
Frazer- I love getting tickets for concerts or chances to go somewhere/experience something
10. If you could be Santa or Ms. Claus for a day, what would you do?
Frazer- I would travel the world for the night. I would love to see how that feels.
11. What’s your favorite Christmas song?
Lordi- My favorite is “Step into Christmas” by Elton John.
Frazer- I like the newer pop Christmas songs like those by Sabrina Carpenter.
12. What’s the worst Christmas song?
Lordi—That Mariah Carey song, "All I Want for Christmas is You". If I hear this song one more time, I will claw my eyeballs out.
13. What is your favorite Christmas movie?
Frazer- Mine is easy; it's The Holiday .
Lordi- I hate Christmas movies; I can't sit still for that long.
14. What’s the best gift you ever gave somebody?
Frazer- My mother-in-law. [She was] moving out of the home that they raised my husband and sister-in-law in, got a hand drawing of that house and she burst into tears.
15. What do you like around Christmas time?
Lordi- Spending time with family and friends.
Frazer- Getting a perfect gift for somebody.
16. Is there anything you don't like around Christmas time?
Lordi- It’s expensive
Frazer- Having to figure out how to split time with family during the holiday.
17. What's your favorite memory of Christmas when you were a child?
Frazer- The year I got a big kid bike it didn't snow, and I got to ride it all day because it was nice outside.
