ROCKLAND- On May 23, Rockland High School's Prom will take place at the Tirrell Room in Quincy from 7-10:30 p.m.
Before the buses leave the school, seniors arrive at 5:15 in the back gym for the Grand March.
The Grand March is an event that takes place in the gym before prom for seniors to walk through the arch and into the gym with their date or friend.
Tickets were $100, and this year, 221 tickets were sold. Students are allowed to bring an outside guest if they brought the form signed when they bought their tickets.
Guidance counselor, Mrs. Jill Delaney, said that students should look forward to the venue as it is an amazing spot for pictures with a beautiful outdoor area with a gazebo.
During prom season, students who may not be able to afford prom are able to talk to Ms. Delaney or Mrs. Casey Levesque, another guidance counselor.
Mrs. Delaney said, “I think prom is a fun night with your peers, and it’s also so wonderful seeing everyone dressed up.”
Senior Savannah Milso is most excited to be with friends and take pictures at the venue.
As a senior, Milso said that, “prom is definitely meaningful, especially senior year, it’s like you're closing out of high school, and it makes the last day not so sad because you still have prom.”
With prom being so late, Milso would only change the time it takes place because she feels as though it is too late, and people get tired very quickly.
Milso added, “I would tell underclassmen to not take prom for granted. It’s a day where you and your friends get to dress up in clothes and makeup that you can’t just wear on a regular day.”
Prom court is decided by the students through a Google Form where they use a scan code and they can vote right through their phones.
The court is made up of three princesses, as well as a King and a Queen. They will be announced by the end of the night, and all get sashes and flowers, and the King and Queen will be crowned.
