QUINCY- Prom is the highlight of their senior and junior year for many students. But this year it will cost more than it has in recent years.
Last year's prom tickets cost $80, already a sizable amount of money. But this year it will cost $100 to get a ticket.
The prom will be help on May 28 at the Tirrell Room in Quincy.
This price hike has caused some controversy among students.
Senior Keith Mantell said, “It's a lot of money to add onto the costs of everything else.”
Fellow senior, James Casino, said that $100 is just too much for some people to afford.
However, not all senior students mind the increase. Senior Petr Quinn doesn't mind the price raise since he thinks that the price matches what most schools and colleges charge for high-end events.
Fellow senior Matthew Medford, agrees with the price hike, stating that “the venue is nice so it makes sense.”
Senior class advisor and science teacher, Ms. Ashley Leighton, said that the price increase was due to the increased cost of the venue and of the bus used to ferry students to the venue.
The price was raised to $100 because “we just agreed that $100 was a good even number… and it would cover the cost,” Ms. Leighton said.
She also said that financial aid was available for students who could not afford the $100.
The cost of tickets hasn’t prevented the excitement about prom. One area that's caused some buzz is the location of this year's new venue.
This year's venue includes a ballroom as well as an outdoor space where students can get fresh air.
“[Last year’s prom] was so cramped people were stepping on each other's dresses,” senior Tori Dalton explained. “So I’m looking forward to the new venue.”
This thought was shared by Quinn, who said that he is glad the venue is larger since last year’s space was too small for everyone to fit comfortably.
There were 246 tickets sold, but they are no longer available for purchase.
