ROCKLAND—The Student Government Council at Rockland High School will host Project Pumpkin on Saturday from 2 to 4:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 per child, granting access to all activities during the day. The school will also be collecting canned food donations for a local food pantry.
This Halloween season, local families and children are getting ready for a twist on a beloved tradition: Project Pumpkin, an indoor trick-or-treating event that will provide a safe, fun, and weatherproof Halloween experience.
Held at the high school, Project Pumpkin transforms the classrooms into a Halloween wonderland filled with spooky decorations and lots of candy. Parents can breathe easy knowing their children are trick-or-treating in a secure environment.
Science teacher and Student Government Council Advisor Ms. Kaitlyn Diver explained the motivation behind the event, saying, “It's not meant to be like a fundraiser of any sort, but it just kind of helps bring the school together and the community together.”
Volunteers decorate the classrooms and the hallways. They stand in each classroom and pass out candy to the children.
“It helps the children in the school with community service, so we get to reach out to different groups of students who come together for this volunteer opportunity, as well as reach out to the community, parents, and their kids,” said Ms. Diver.
For many people. Project Pumpkin offers peace of mind.
“It's great to have a safe option where my brother can enjoy Trick or Treating without me or my parents worrying,” said Caylee Chavis, a freshman at Rockland High.
“Seeing the smiles on the kid's faces is what I'm most excited about,” freshman volunteer Karlee Purdham said. “I want every child to have a great time.”
As the day unfolds, laughter fills the air as children collect treats and make memories. For families needing more safe trick-or-treating options in their neighborhoods, Project Pumpkin has become a beloved Halloween event, blending the community spirit with the spooky fun of the season.
