ROCKLAND--Rockland High School will be offering new electives next year.
The administration wants to offer students more choices so that they can get involved with a class that links with their future profession or just fills their curiosity.
RHS Guidance counselor, Mrs. Jill Delaney said, “now students can pick courses that they’re actually interested in.”
The new electives being added include fashion design, environmental science, Bioengineering in forensic science, mechanical and electrical engineering, music theory, health 101, etc…
In the history department, there will be courses about the Holocaust and Human Behavior, Sports History, and Leadership Skills for the 21st Century.
Guidance counselors believe that health 101 will be a great option for grade 10-12 students who don’t wish to do traditional physical education.
This class will teach students about life after high school, and It will show how to make good choices, both physical and mental.
Mrs. Delaney said, “If you’re a sophomore, junior, or senior, and you don’t want to take gym, now you don't have to.”
If students are interested in different electives not previously stated, don't fret! New electives are added to the program of studies every one to two years.
Also, if students have any recommendations of their own, Dr. John Harrison, and the rest of the administration, said they are happy to take feedback.
