ROCKLAND—Rockland High School math teacher Mrs. Valerie Mulready will retire at the end of this school year.
Mrs. Mulready has been teaching in Rockland for 23 years and 25 years total.
When she retires she will still work at Rockland’s night school program, but she will babysit her grandchildren a lot during the days.
“I always thought that Rockland had a wonderful school system. I do believe that you get out of it what you put into it. It was convenient. I knew a lot of the people and I thought everybody got a great education, so I wanted to be part of that,” Mrs. Mulready said.
Mrs. Mulready and her husband both graduated from Rockland High School.
She and her husband both loved Rockland so they wanted to get a house in Rockland when they had children.
Rockland High School teacher, Mr. Jared Lordi grew up playing sports with Mrs. Mulready’s children so he has known her for a long time.
“I always really enjoy working with Mrs. Mulready. She’s one of my favorite math teachers and she’s someone that I grew up with too,” Mr. Lordi said.
Lordi is sad she’s leaving however, he’s happy for her because he knows she’s excited to spend time with her grandchildren and family.
“I think the biggest thing I’ve learned from her is that you can come into work everyday and really enjoy your job. She always had a big smile on her face and she has a nice, calming presence about her in class and that’s something I appreciate and try to take into my own classroom too,” Mr. Lordi said.
