ROCKLAND- Rockland High welcomed a new science teacher and coach, Ms. Chelsea Savage, this 2022-2023 school year.
Ms. Savage attended Quinnipiac University and originally wanted to pursue criminal justice. During her sophomore year of college, she learned that she wanted to become a science teacher.
For her undergrad, she majored in Biology, then Secondary Education for her Master's degree.
She teaches both College Prep and Honors Biology classes at RHS.
Prior to coming to Rockland, Ms. Savage taught at Revere High School for five years. She originally lived in Pembroke, and now lives in Quincy. Since she wanted to teach at a smaller school, closer to her hometown, Ms. Savage thought RHS was a perfect fit.
“I was looking for a smaller school, and one closer to home, ” said Ms. Savage.
Ms. Savage ran both track and cross country throughout high school and college. She currently coaches track with History teacher, Ms. Kara Penney.
Ms. Penney admires Savages’s ability to make connections with students, and how she's able to show that through her coaching.
“She makes really good connections with the students, and acts as a great support system, ” said Penney.
Track team members thank Ms. Savage for building up their endurance and improving their teamwork.
Sophomore Kameron Drake said, “Ms. Savage pushes everyone to accomplish their goals. While doing so, they improve. ”
Ms. Savage expressed her fondness for the bright community here and wishes to continue teaching here in the future.
Savage said, “You guys have a great community, being a part of that is important and very fulfilling.”
