ROCKLAND- Ms. Kristi Jones is a new math teacher at Rockland High School this year.
She grew up and went to high school in Virginia.
Ms. Jones went to Virginia Tech for her bachelor's degree and got her master's degree at Boston University.
Before coming to Rockland High, Ms. Jones taught at Clark Avenue Middle School in Chelsea and feels now that teaching at a high school level is a lot less challenging.
“I wanted to do something where I felt like I wanted to help other people. I actually had another job before this where I was just really bored, so I wanted to feel entertained, have the day go by fast and make an impact on others,” said Ms. Jones.
Ms. Jones primarily teaches Algebra to freshmen and Statistics for seniors but also has other grade levels mixed in.
She said she likes to make connections with her students by talking to them about their interests that are outside of school.
“I think Ms. Jones is very nice and works hard,” said Mr. Matt Anzalone, a fellow math teacher at Rockland High.
Ms. Jones said her favorite part about being a teacher is being able to help students with their struggles in class and getting to see the light bulb click in their heads when they finally understand.
Freshman Jaiden-Lee MacLaughlin said, “Ms. Jones helps me understand math well because she shows me great strategies.”
Ms. Jones said she likes to work out, run, hike, and go snowboarding in the winter. She also likes to play tennis.
Ms. Jones loves being at Rockland High School and thinks her classes are going really well.
