ROCKLAND- Mr. Curtis Sheppard is a new Spanish teacher at Rockland High School this year.
Mr. Sheppard graduated from Plymouth North High School and from Salve Regina University with a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education and Spanish.
Mr. Sheppard finds interest in topics besides school such as solving algebraic problems and challenging his mental ability. He also runs Board Game Club with fellow Spanish teacher Mr. Dan Gately on Fridays.
“I like to think of myself largely as self-educated because of how much research, experimentation, and exploration I do in my free time. Among my interests are Mathematics, Linguistics, Computer Programming, and Philosophy,” Mr. Sheppard said.
Mr. Sheppard is a teacher with very unique qualities. His penmanship is very different from other teachers, which students might find hard to understand at first as he writes in cursive, according to Mr. Richard MacAllister.
“I was impressed by how a first-year teacher got so used to the district, bringing insight and knowledge,” Mr. MacAllister said.
Mr. Sheppard also enjoys things like linguistics and computer science outside of school, challenging and improving himself each day.
“I suppose the long-and-short of it is I'm a very cerebral person --- I like to study things and just look for patterns and cool things of interest in the world around me,” Mr. Sheppard said.
Mr. Sheppard is a well-liked teacher so far in his first year in RHS, Lindsay Gillian, a freshman in his Spanish class said, “I think he seems like a really nice person, and I like his flexibility with late work.”
