ROCKLAND- This past Friday, during halftime of the Rockland High Homecoming Football game, Cailey Kelleher was crowned as Miss Rockland 2025.
This year’s other nominees were Riley Boylan, Molly Lucas, Alyson Ready, Ashlyn Ready, and Kayla Shubert.
At the game, each of the nominees was introduced with a short biography and walked onto the field with their families. Kelleher was then crowned by by Principal Mrs. Cheryl Schipper.
This honor is given to a senior student each year, with nominations coming from fellow seniors. Miss Rockland is a representative of the school as a sound student, a positive role model, and a leader who is respected by faculty and students alike.
Miss Rockland is given a front row parking spot at school, as well as a chance to ride in the Veteran’s Day parade.
“I was very surprised and honored to be chosen,” Kelleher said.
After the game, she said she also enjoyed spending time with her family in the stands waiting for the ceremony to start.
Kelleher was recognized for her active involvement in multiple extracurriculars. She is the president of the senior class and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She also plays three different sports: volleyball, lacrosse, and basketball.
She plans to attend a four-year college where she will major in Health Sciences to pursue a career as an orthodontist.
Kelleher advises younger grades to be unafraid of leadership positions and to believe in themselves is all that matters to succeed in doing so.
She says, “I like to talk to a lot of people, and I think I connect with all grades levels to make everyone feel included like they have a role in the community.”
Kelleher also says she lives by the idea that being kind to others and others will be kind to you, and kindness has always been a large part of her life.
Boylan is a volleyball and lacrosse player who is an active member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also a part of the Student Government Council and is the secretary of the National Honor Society.
Boylan gave advice to the underclassmen at Rockland High.
She said, “you shouldn’t be worried about finding your place, just be your own person.”
After graduating, Boylan plans to attend a four-year college with Nursing as her major.
Lucas serves as the secretary for the senior class, she’s a member of the Student Government Council, and the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and Bulldogs Buddies.
Lucas is a three-sport athlete who serves as captain of both her soccer and basketball teams. She also plays lacrosse.
Lucas has a legacy in her family of participating in Miss Rockland.
She said, “My aunt was Miss Rockland, my oldest cousin was Miss Rockland when she was in high school, and my middle cousin was nominated.”
She plans to attend a four-year university to study Biology and pursue her goal of becoming a pediatric orthopedic doctor.
Alyson Ready is an active member of the school community. She is part of the Student Government Council, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and she serves as a freshman mentor. She plays lacrosse and was nominated for Miss Rockland alongside her twin sister, Ashlyn.
“I’m honestly proud of [being nominated with my sister]. I feel like some people were asking me, ‘oh do you hate running with your sister?’, but no. I think it's honestly so nice that we get to do something like this together, especially being twins. It’s just what I'm used to,” said Alyson Ready.
She hopes to be an uplifting force within the school. She tries to always be social, and spread kindness throughout the entire school.
Alyson Ready said, “I think there has been a lot of negativity this year and with other students and teachers. I just haven’t heard the best things about this year starting, but honestly I feel so positive about it and I hope to make this change.”
Alyson Ready advises younger students to make an effort in their first years of high school, even if they don’t care at the moment.
“Genuinely try freshman and sophomore year because once you get to junior and senior year, it's very important. You'll care about it then, even though freshman year I didn’t care, I was just going day by day, but now I wish I tried my absolute potential,” she said.
Alyson Ready hopes to attend a four-year college in the South to study Health Sciences after graduating from high school.
Ashlyn Ready is a captain of the volleyball and lacrosse teams. She is the Student Athlete Advisory Council Treasurer, the Co-Chair of the Student Council Spirit Committee as well as the Vice President of the National Honor Society.
Ashlyn Ready plans to attend a four-year university where she will major in Biology and plans to become a pharmacist.
Shubert has come a long way from the shy, quiet student she once was.
“I didn’t think of myself as an outgoing person. I definitely used to be a lot more timid, but once I joined more clubs and started making more friends, I became more outgoing,” she said.
Shubert is now a three-sport athlete taking part in both spring and winter track and serving as a captain for the cross country team. She is the Treasurer for the Student Government Council, Class Representative of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and the Student Representative for Rockland Cares.
Shubert will be pursuing a degree in Early Childhood Education and plans to become a teacher.
“I’m fairly confident that I represent Rockland well. I’ve always been involved in the town since I was young,” Shubert said.
