ROCKLAND- At the start of the school year, one of Rockland High’s teachers, Mr. Richard Little, came in to play a new role as the building substitute.
Mr. Little graduated from Rockland High School and has been teaching for over fifty years.
“This is my first time subbing in over fifty years…and for the last two years I’ve been teaching math MCAS,” he said.
As much as he loved teaching math MCAS, he finds that this new role is teaching him a lot more about the school, such as navigating through the different floors every day.
Mr. Little’s position as the building substitute teacher has become a learning experience for him in many different ways.
He had been teaching in many different areas before coming back here to Rockland, but his first job teaching was at this high school.
“He has a great sense of humor…great with kids, great teacher. It’s too bad we can’t do the MCAS math class because he did great things with it,” said Mr. Fredrick Damon, Dean of Rockland High.
Mr. Damon also explained how he has a great knowledge of Rockland and its history overall because he’s been here for so long.
During Bulldog Block, Mr. Little and Mr. Damon run a group discussing the history of Rockland. They will be continuing that with the first Bulldog Block in October.
“He was a very easy person to talk to if you didn’t understand something and was very reliable...He was always very lively, even when we had him early in the morning,” said senior, Mariah Almeida, one of Mr. Little’s former students.
Mr. Little has proven to be a true bulldog throughout this time, graduating here over fifty years ago, and still he wanted to come back.
