ROCKLAND- The 2024 Homecoming Dance took place on October 19, with 324 Rockland High School students and their guests enjoying the event.
Seniors Joey Mann and Angelina Ciani were named King and Queen, and the following underclassmen were named to the court: freshmen Celia Harlow and Pat McDonough; sophomores Lizzy Papa and Sam Santos; and juniors Charli Woodward and Daniel Moran.
The Student Government Council is running the dance this year, but it was specifically run by the Spirit Committee.
The chairpeople for this committee were seniors Shannon Gustin and Mohammed Asad.
“I think I only went to one high school dance in freshman year, and that's where I learned that I didn't really like the DJ, ”said Ms. Kaitlyn Diver, science teacher and Student Government Advisor.
One change that Ms. Diver wanted to make was to spend more money on the DJ.
The reason they want to focus more on this is because the good energy comes from good music.
When Ms. Diver was a student at Rockland High she did not like going to the school dances because not many students attended.
Principal Mrs. Cheryl Schipper added that the district has a homecoming dance because it's a tradition to have a place where students can celebrate the district and the school.
“It's just kind of a fall tradition,” Mrs. Schipper said.
