It was a strong Fall season for the Bulldogs, with all the teams in the playoffs racking up at least one win.
Volleyball
The team lost in the quarterfinals to Bellingham High School 3-1.
This came after beating Ursuline Academy 3-2 in the Round of 16.
“Volleyball is 80% mental. If our athletes are locked in and focused on the game, they can perform at a high level,” said varsity coach Ms. Emily Adams, who is also a first-grade teacher at Phelps.
This week, Nadia Dutton, Tori Hynes, Maggie Elie, and Nayla Chaves were named South Shore League All-Stars. Elie also earned the Sullivan Division Player of the Year.
Football
The varsity football team lost to Clinton High School in the Elite 8 round.
They will play East Bridgewater in the Thanksgiving Day game at Veteran's Stadium at 10 a.m.
Head Coach Mr. Nick Liquori said that heading into the playoffs, the team has been working on Ball control, tackling (in space), and blocking assignments.
The team’s biggest strength is their “ability to run the ball consistently helps chew time off the clock and keep other offenses at bay,” Mr. Liquori said.
Boys’ Soccer
The team's postseason run came to an end on Wednesday 11/8 with a 7-4 loss to Monument Mountain High School. All four goals were scored by senior Joao Faria.
Coach Dan Kimball left the game and went right to the hospital to welcome his new baby, Skylar Jade, who joins son Mason and daughter Harper at home.
The team will now play again at #7 seed Monument Mountain Regional High School in Great Barrington on Wednesday, 11/8 at 4 p.m. in the round of 16.
Coach and Athletic Director Mr. Dan Kimball said the team has been working on keeping the ball hot and staying organized positionally.
“The boys are really starting to click. We have done a great job adjusting to our new formation and the boys are really moving well off of the ball. Everyone is playing within the team concept and we are just taking it one game at a time,” he said.
This season, Joao Faria, Kaiky Araujo, and Noah Jordan were all named South Shore League All-Stars.
Girls’ Soccer
The team's season ended on Wednesday night, losing to #4 Lynnfield High School 4-1.
Head Coach Ms. Marcia Beatty, a Phelps Elementary Physical Education teacher, said the teams’ biggest strengths are their defense, with a strong goal and midfielders and forwards who can create scoring opportunities.
“Our team has four great captains who provide our team with excellent leadership and everyone on the team works hard every day in practice… to improve their game,” Beatty said.
Emilie Trainque, Emilee Dunham, and Mia Radzik were all named South Shore League All-Stars.
