ROCKLAND- The Jets and the Sharks, AKA the RHS Band will perform a selection of songs from the musical West Side Story at their annual Broadway Night, Tuesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Rockland High School auditorium.
The chorus is also performing songs from a variety of Broadway musicals, including Carrie, Heathers, and Into The Woods.
Sophomore Lillian Bossie says performing, whether in the school musical or with the chorus is "addictive," and she performed songs from Hamilton and Chicago last year. This year she has songs from three different musicals.
Junior McKenna Maher was familiar with the soundtrack of West Side Story and is excited to hear the band play the music.
She will be performing a solo, a duet, some supporting roles, and with the chorus as a whole.
Maher says anyone who plans to attend should expect to see a wonderful show filled with variety and talent that reflects the hard work of the students of the music program.
"I am most looking forward to being able to perform with the seniors for one of their last times on stage during their high school careers. Their kindness and experienced influence will be missed," Maher said.
Sophomore Allyson Leary will be performing in three acts including a solo from Carrie.
"I am most looking forward to expressing myself through the characters I am portraying through these songs. I think it’s great that we have this opportunity to act on a smaller scale than a musical," Leary said.
