ROCKLAND- The Rockland High School Boys’ Lacrosse is halfway through the season, with a record of eight wins and two losses.
With the goal to make it further into the tournament than last year, Coach Dave Taylor is working on analyzing and improving each individual player’s own skills.
“As a coach, I try and break down what each player is capable of on the field and make the defensive and offensive scheme work as a whole,” Coach Taylor said.
With a lot of new players this season, there come many challenges but also more chances.
“We try and work everyone in when we can. With the larger number of players it gives us more opportunities at practice and in games," Coach Taylor said.
Senior captain Lucas Leander is hopeful for his team’s placement in the tournament to get in the playoffs, after facing challenges against teams like Cohasset.
“I think we have a solid chance of making the playoffs and hoping to get a good seed too,” Leander said.
Leander recently set a school record for most boys' lacrosse points, passing 2018 graduate Matty O'Brien's former record of 332.
Aaron Ramponi, a freshman who recently joined the lacrosse team, also wants to keep playing and is currently enjoying the season.
“I like the season so far, and my favorite part is practice but I just don’t like the meets when it’s raining,” Ramponi said.
The team is comprised of many different types of athletes and that is why it works at lacrosse. Football, soccer, hockey, and basketball, as well as wrestlers, make up the team.
"The team also does community service, such as the town-wide cleanup back in April. On [the] whole it is very enjoyable to coach the group,” Coach Taylor said.
