BRIDGEWATER- Rockland High School students attended The Be In The Know conference at Bridgewater State University on March 7.
Students part of Rockland Cares School Edition and others passionate about substance use awareness and mental health attended the conference.
Meghan Hailer, a senior, was one of the lucky RHS students who attended the Conference! This was Meghan’s second year attending, as she attended last year when the theme was Be In The Glow.
Meghan felt that this year had a lot more energy than last.
Meghan said, “My favorite part this year was the speakers. The yellow tulip project had a wonderful presentation and I also loved how they were speaking, you could tell they were passionate about their point of view”.
Meghan was one of the RHS students presenting at the conference, “I was a little nervous about presenting but I knew I would be okay because Mrs. Leahy did a great job organizing everything”.
The conference brought in amazing guest speakers presenting a compelling message.
Kevin Rosario was among the speakers there, and his message was extremely powerful and his presentation was moving and brought some to tears.
Teachers that attended included guidance counselor Mrs. Freea Leahy and art teacher Ms. Kata Medeiros.
This was Mrs. Leahy’s seventh year attending the Be In The Know Conference, and her favorite part of this year was that students presented Rockland’s Kindness Rock Project.
Mrs. Leahy said, “Everyone was willing to jump in and present, nobody seemed scared, and I think it went very well”.
Mrs. Leahy got involved with the Be In The Know project because she loves the work they do around youth substance use prevention.
Mrs. Leahy said, “It is important for students to attend, to see the work other students are doing to bring substance use awareness to their schools.
Ms. Medeiros has attended the conference for four years.
Ms. Medeiros said, “My favorite thing about this year's conference is that Rockland High School students presented. I was super proud of all of them, I think they did very well and even if they were nervous they didn't seem nervous at all”.
Ms. Medeiros got involved with Be In The Know after hearing about the project through Rockland Cares.
