ROCKLAND- On July 30, Ms. Diana Newcomb and her wife Colleen, a firefighter, welcomed their new baby Stevie Jean to the Rockland community.
Ms. Newcomb's dad, Steve, who has two daughters and now four grandaughters, was someone who came to mind when choosing Stevie Jean's name as Ms. Newcomb wanted to give him a namesake.
“[My first daughter’s] middle name is Dorothy and that was my Nana’s name who was very special to me,” Ms. Newcomb added.
There have been challenges for Ms. Newcomb as she goes from one kid to two like getting two kids ready for everything, making sure they both get one-on-one time, and some of the emotions going through it all.
Although there has been some difficulty, Ms. Newcomb's oldest daughter Ryen has been very helpful.
Ms. Newcomb said, “It is really like she has grown up in front of my eyes from being a baby to a toddler overnight.”
As Ms. Newcomb misses seeing all the students and the excitement of starting a new school year, while on leave she has enjoyed watching her girls grow each day.
“We love going for lots of walks, I love having three meals a day with Ry, getting to be the one to wake her up in the morning… Every day is a new day with new adventures,” Ms. Newcomb said.
As Stevie grows up, Ms. Newcomb is looking forward to seeing how similar and different she is to Ryen. So far, her favorite thing about Stevie is her snuggles and how she is a mommy’s girl.
Ms. Newcomb said, “She loves being held no matter what time it is. She has that newborn smell and just curls so perfectly into you… She laughs and makes great eye contact with you.”
Ms. Newcomb hopes to be back before Christmas break and is looking forward to basketball season and getting back into a new routine.
Coming back to school, Ms. Newcomb finds it will be difficult leaving her girls for five days as they are a true blessing to her and she doesn’t take a minute of it for granted.
She added, “You end up with a whole new perspective on life when you have children and go through some real difficult times getting there.”
