ROCKLAND- The 50th Anniversary Rockland Arts Festival will be held at Rockland High School on May 3 and 4 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is a district-wide event, and participation from all Rockland schools is expected.
There is going to be K-12 art, music, family consumer science, woodworking, face painting, food trucks, interactive art, and so much more fun activities.
“We’re hoping to get a lot of people this year. We have 30 alumni that are returning, and there's going to be an art display by the cafe with alumni art. We have four food trucks this year, two days of music performances district-wide, and K-12 music performances,” said Mrs. Cheryl Thompson, Rockland’s Art Department chair and teacher at RHS.
Rockland High School wasn’t able to host a festival for a couple of years because of the COVID pandemic. After two years off, the festival returned in 2022.
“It’s nice to have it back, and it's bigger than ever. Excited to see the turnout this year,” Mrs. Thompson said.
The festival is an opportunity for the whole community to see what students and staff in Rockland do during the tear.
“I’m excited about all the community involvement that we have, we have a lot of people coming, people from in and out of school. We have a lot of teachers and students involved, we also have alumni artists coming, we have food trucks coming, we have all sorts of stuff” said Ms. Kata Medeiros, an art and photography teacher at Rockland High School.
Student's artwork is generally displayed in the gymnasium and throughout Main Street and common spaces.
There is a meeting after school in room 204 on on Wednesday, April 12 in Mrs. Thompson’s room for anyone looking to get involved. You can also email Mrs. Thomas at cthompson@rocklandschools.org.
