ROCKLAND- On Friday, March 17, Rockland High hosted an alumni basketball game which raised $700 for the athletic programs.
Athletic Director Dan Kimball organized the event and played for the blue team, who won 125-116.
Mr. Kimball said his favorite part was “Seeing the wide variety of people coming out to support the Bulldogs.”
Graduates of the RHS Bulldog basketball program from 2007-2021 participated.
The top scorers were Derek Williams and Pat Moriarty, both from the class of 2021, for the blue team, and Andrew Frazer, class of 2015 for the white team.
“It was a lot of fun to play with the guys I played with in high school again,” said Frazer, who will definitely be back for the next game in November.
Mr. Kimball hopes to see a bigger turnout for fans and former players and is working on plans to have raffles or other activities as part of the event.
“I hope for a better turnout [of alumni players] so next time we have more subs and we can all walk without being sore the next day,” Frazer joked.
The game was not always so close as the final score, with the white team making a big push for a comeback in the second, 30-minute half.
It was pick-up basketball rules, with the players calling their own fouls, and playing with a running clock while subbing on the fly.
Norwell hosts an alumni game the Saturday after Thanksgiving every year and Mr. Kimball said they’ve had a lot of success.
“We had a boosters meeting trying to figure out a way to generate funds for the spring and I thought that would it be a good opportunity,” Mr. Kimball said.
He plans on hosting the next alumni game on Saturday, November 25.
Matt Nicholson, 2014 graduate, said, “I think this is something that will continue to grow and I’m looking forward to the next one.”
It was $30 for each player to join the game, and that included their uniform of a Bulldogs Dri-Fit shirt.
