4th Grade News!

Check out What's Coming Up This Week!


Students will continue reading their guided reading books this week. Students will also continue to work with Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Fox, and the Imagine Learning Program on a daily basis. The comprehension strategy we will be focusing on this week is Comparing and Contrasting. Please remember to have your child read 20 minutes each night!


This week we will continue our unit on Fractions! This week we will be focusing on finding equivalent fractions, identifying improper fractions and mixed numbers, as well as comparing/ordering fractions with like and unlike denominators.


Students will continue working with their spelling words this week. There will be no homework due this week, and the spelling test is scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th.


This week we will be focusing in Social Studies!

Social Studies

This week we will begin our Building a New Nation and Westward Expansion Unit! Students will learn all about the founding fathers of our country, the important documents that form the basis of our government, and how the country expanded into the western territories.


This week we will continue working on our Revolutionary War writing project. Students will choose to write from the perspective of either a patriot or a loyalist during the Revolutionary War. They will write a persuasive letter to a family member convincing them to join their side using facts and evidence to support their position.

Important Information!

Jamestown Trip

Thank you so much to all parents, especially chaperones, for making our Jamestown Trip a huge success!! The kids had a wonderful time, learned a lot, and made great memories. I appreciate all the support and cooperation!

JMU Forbes Center Performance

On Friday, March 22nd, all 4th Grade classes from Rockingham County will attend a dance performance at the JMU Forbes Center for the Performing Arts as part of a county wide initiative to incorporate the arts into curriculum and instruction. Permission forms will be sent home with students on Monday, March 11th and are due back Thursday, March 21st. There is no cost associated with this trip and we will not be needing any parent chaperones.

We have extra classroom pictures. Pictures are $10 each and if you write a check, please make it payable to PKVES.

Spring Picture Day!

Spring Pictures will be taken on Tuesday, March 19th. If you are interested in purchasing pictures, please return the picture form and money by Tuesday.
