Instructional Technology Resource Teacher

Rockingham County Public schools

Hi, I'm Jennifer. I've worked in RCPS for over twenty years teaching English language learners. I've enjoyed working with students in every grade and with varying English levels. Most of my teaching experience is in middle and high school with eight years in elementary. In addition, I participated in a middle school Chromebook pilot with a collaborating teacher. My last year teaching I had a take-home iPad pilot with the English learners in my high school classes.

During these years in the classroom, I was honored to work and collaborate with many talented and dedicated teachers. From each teacher, I gained invaluable experiences, insights into teaching, and opportunities to better understand students. Thank you to all of you who allowed me this opportunity to step into your classroom and into your world. I learned so much from each of you!

In the classroom, I enjoyed learning about each student's life experiences and discovering the best ways each student learns. This helped me work with the student and the classroom teacher in individualizing his or her education by developing strategies for success. When we level the playing field for students, by making the content more accessible and by differentiating instruction, students improve language skills, experience success, and gain self-confidence.

As an ITRT, I am honored to work beside administrators, teachers, and staff during the final year of digital conversion. Late fall Chromebooks and iPads were distributed to elementary school classrooms. Those teachers are so excited to FINALLY have devices. The changes the elementary schools are making in how they do business if phenomenal! They are thinking outside of the box in making changes that enhance the school atmosphere and support the 5Cs.

The most important moments for me are working with teachers where they are in their teaching journey and differentiating instruction by showing teachers and students about free accessibility tools. Wow! I am truly honored to be a part of these incredible moments when a child's world turns around because the student becomes a more proficient learner by using resources to overcome their challenges. As we continue on this journey of transforming learning, please don't hesitate to contact me for any of your big or small questions or requests. I am here to support you where you are in your journey. Thank you for this privilege!
