Meet Your School Counselor

Hello! My name is Mrs. Leigh and I am so excited to be your school counselor here at Huntsville ES. As a school counselor my goal is to assist staff, students, and parents in order to create a positive and effective learning environment. My hope is that this environment will help our students become productive citizens.

I am a recent graduate of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. I graduated with a Master of Science degree in School Counseling. Outside of my internship experience, Huntsville is the first school I have had the pleasure to serve.

Reading, writing, and family are just a few of the things that I love the most. My husband is also in the education field. We were married in June 2020. We help keep each other motivated and brainstorm creative, innovative activities to utilize within classrooms. One of my goals is to connect with every student and help them become the best version of themselves personally and academically.

My Mission

My mission is to advocate for all the students by working with various stakeholders to help to remove all barriers and create a learning environment that is equitable and accessible to all students regardless of gender, race/ethnicity, religion, age, ability, socio-economic status, or sexual orientation.

Through participation in a data driven school counseling program, our students will develop appropriate social and emotional skills, responsible decision making, and positive behaviors and attitudes that will help them to achieve current and future goals.

My Vision

All students at Huntsville Elementary School will gain and possess the academic and social-emotional skills to become global leaders and productive citizens that contribute to their community. They will show responsibility and make self-directed decisions, show empathy and appreciate diversity, value themselves and others, and show resiliency by developing solutions to short and long term challenges.

My Beliefs

  • All students have the right to access the school counselor.

  • All students are valuable regardless of their differences.

  • The school counselor is an advocate for all students.

  • All students can learn to be independent and resilient in the face of challenges.

  • All students can achieve social/emotional and academic success when given timely and appropriate support and interventions with fidelity.

  • School counselors serve as leaders and collaborators in assessing barriers to academic success.

  • School counselors should collaborate with families, community resources, and various stakeholders to help ensure all students are successful.

  • School counselors should abide by local regulations and the ASCA's Ethical Standards for School Counselors.

My Goal

My main goal is to advocate for all students so that they can achieve in academics, social emotional development, and college and career readiness. I will achieve this by providing whole group, small group, individual counseling, and consultation/collaboration with stakeholders. I am also the 504 coordinator and PBIS Coach.
