Welcome to Robin Wood!

I am passionate about wood turning and birds! Several years ago, I came across an abandoned and forgotten wood lathe (1963 vintage!) that was collecting dust as well as rust caused by water dripping from an overhead leak. It tugged at my heart to see it wasting away. Against the odds, I took the lathe and disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled all its parts. Life was brought back to the old behemoth! Ever since, that old lathe has fueled my passion and allowed me to turn pieces of felled trees that would otherwise be left to rot into beautiful birdhouses, bowls, ornaments, and other treasures!

It brings me great joy to use locally sourced woods, such as black cherry, maple, apple, ash, and black walnut, to turn unique items for all to enjoy! Turning wooden birdhouses of all sizes, from full-size bird houses that are “move-in ready” for cavity nesting birds, to decorative desktop houses, and small hanging birdhouse ornaments is the main focus of my work. I do, however, also turn a variety of other items such as wooden bowls, holiday ornaments, spinning tops, gnomes, and even UFO’s!

Thank you for taking the time to view my work! Enjoy!

Birdhouse CategorySize Comparison

I create three birdhouse size categories: "Full-Size, Decorative, and Ornament." Although variations exist within each category, in general, the "Full-Size" birdhouses approximate 9-12" in overall height and 3-6" in overall diameter. The "Decorative" birdhouses are smaller and approximate 3-6" in overall height and 2-4" in overall diameter. The smallest category, the "Ornament" size, approximate 1.5-4" in overall height and 1-2" in overall diameter. Again - variations within each category exist; specific dimensions are stated with each individual item! The image to the left illustrates general differences!
