RRS PROFESSIONAL GROWTH CYCLE
RRS believes in the principles of Whanaungatanga (relationship, kinship and a sense of family connection. It is created through shared experiences and working together and provides people with a sense of belonging. It comes with rights and obligations, which serve to strengthen each member of that whānau or group). It is with these principles of Whanaungatanga that the construct of Tuakana/Teina is used in the PGC. Tuakana (experienced/fully certificated teacher/Team Leader or SLT) familiar with the day to day work of the Teina (teacher).
Through teacher everyday practice and conversations - contexts are selected. The PGC model is used as the filter to enable co-design and redesign throughout the year. Tuakana/Teina develop a reciprocal learning partnership. Designing is ongoing and journaling is via teacher reflections (PGC Growth Journal) hyperlinked to practice spaces.
These conversations are formalized with initial professional conversations with Tuakana and by checkpoints in Terms 2 and 4 with the Principal.
By engaging in the Professional Growth Cycle RRS teachers will be supported to:
Develop their understanding of the Standards or Paewera in the Robertson Road School context and in teaching practice;
Ensure quality pedagogy and improve their teaching practice, and consequently improve student outcomes; and
Ensure sufficient professional growth and to meet the Standards or Paewera for teacher certification endorsement.
